ADIRONDACKS IN OCTOBER

We went to a wedding in Jay, New York last weekend.  We stayed at the Navajo Lodge in Upper Jay for the weekend.  Below are some photos of the wildlife around the lodge and leaves from the area.

A melanistic White-tailed Deer eating under the apple tree

I spotted 4 Wild Turkey jakes on the far side of the river across from the lodge.  They were playing around til they flew up into the trees to feast on wild grapes.  If you look closely you can see the grapes.

Two mature Wild Turkey toms in the back pasture behind the lodge.

MAINE NORTHWOODS MAMMALS

I spent a week with a friend in the northwoods of Maine.  The trip was a photography mission during the moose rut.  We were happy to capture anything that came along.

Folks, this is a bucket list critter for me, a Canadian Lynx.  Rarely seen and photographed.

First bull that we spotted

Second bull that we spotted.  This is huge animal body size with a relatively small rack.

Third bull.  The only one we called in on the trip.  He came in so close the first time that we could smell his breath, inside of thirty feet (no photos).   He then retreated and we called again.  He circled us and came out to the road to pose for us.

We caught this foursome in the road early one morning.  We suspect they were all 2-3 year olds.  They posed and the boys tusseled for about 20 minutes for us.

Eastern Chipmunk - lots of Red Squirrels too, just no good photos.
